The HASLER PEANUT DINGHY has been specifically designed for children between the ages of 2 and 12, aimed at nothing less than creating a new generation of young sailors who become expert and safe boatman at an earlier age than ever before - while having a great deal of fun in the process.
The PEANUT is the ideal boat for use, under supervision, on protected waters or swimming pools. On dry land she stands firmly upright and provides a robust source of imaginative games - as well as a good way to practice rowing.
The PEANUT DINGHY was designed for children by the late H.G. 'Blondie' Hasler of World War II Cockleshell hero fame and renowned as the originator of the Single-Handed Transatlantic Race. He was also the pioneer of modern self-steering gears and junk rigs.
The boat is scaled down to suit the size and strength of children of children. Measuring 5´ long X 2`10" beam X approx 4" draft and weighing 37lbs (17kgs), she can easily be carried on deck, on a roof rack, or nest inside a full-sized dinghy.
The PEANUT DINGHY is moulded in glassfibre/polyester resin, with all-round fendering. The double skin provides built-in buoyancy and the hooked gunwhale deflects spray and makes for easy lifting and dragging ashore. The bilge keels-cum-grab handles enable the dinghy to stand firmly on land and to be easily righted if capsized. The fore and aft bench seat means that children of all sizes can learn to trim the boat correctly, and alternative oar positions provide for a crew of either one child or two.

The oars are held in captive rowlocks, which automatically hold the oar blades vertical. It has been found that this system makes the process of rowing almost inevitable. A small child, perhaps only two years old, sitting in the boat for the first time, finds two oar handles waving about in front of them. Grasping them for support feels reassuring, and moving them up and down produces pleasing splashes at the far end. In a very short time they have discovered for themselves that moving them in a more circular manner produces better splashes and also makes the boat move. Thereafter the processes of starting, stopping, steering and manoeuvring are learnt instinctively, like walking.
ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE UNDER SUPERVISION AND WEAR LIFEJACKETS. However, the boat has a large amount of built-in buoyancy, and can be rowed home fully swamped, if nescessary. The oars lock into retaining plates for security. In the early stages, a long floating line attached to the PEANUT is recommended. This affords some degree of control and gives the young oarsman confidence.
Your PEANUT DINGHY comes complete with oars and painter, ready to row, in RED, WHITE, or BLUE.
A young child rowing a PEANUT DINGHY is wonderful to behold and the sense of achievement and fun is evident for all to see. A great tribute to 'Blondie' Hasler, who had an exceptional understanding of the sea.
